As blogger have you been wondering, Pagination or infinite scroll, which is better for ranking your website. Well, read along and you will find the best option you should be choosing to rank your website on page 1 of google or any search engine.
There are ways to look at these two options. One is from the reader’s perspective and another is from the search engine perspective. In this post, I am going to cover both these perspectives so that you can then choose, which of the two is a better option for you to use on your own blog. Pagination or infinite scroll from reader’s perspective:
When we are designing the content, we presume that it will be consumed by the reader as well as the search engines in the same way. Well, let me update the people who are new to blogging that at the time of publishing this post, though the search engines claim that they are capturing the reader’s perspective, the fact remains they have their own algorithm which uses different parameters which typical reader would not be really interested in. For a reader, we would like to stay on a page and get all the content on one page. But at the same time, the reader would also be interested in having a proper segmentation of the content so that they do not waste time.
As a reader, we would like to stay on a page and get all the content on one page. But at the same time, we would also be interested in having a proper segmentation of the content. So that does not waste time in searching the right content for them. Also, infinite scroll shows content after content to the readers and keep them hooked to the website. Another important thing that is important from the user’s perspective is the creativity we bring. I had visited Mapro and had posted “How Is Creativity More Refreshing Than A New Socks – See it at Mapro”. If you are a start-up, consider reading 20 Golden Tips for a successful online start-ups
Pagination or infinite scroll from search engine’s perspective:
It is important that our blog should be listed on any of the search engines. Only if it listed it would reach the masses. For the search engine bots to come on our website and index our website, it is important that the content is properly segmented so that these bots can understand what and how the content is placed on the blog, so that when the user searches on the search engine, the search engines can then throw the appropriate results. In addition, the more the blogs are relevant, the higher the chances of getting listed on the search engines. There is another parameter and that is the number of pages that a visitor visits in each visit. This also is an important parameter that is monitored by the search engines.
The screenshot below shows the various parameters that the search engines track as for the purpose of ranking a particular website and for the purpose of domain authority.
Now if we are not able to serve the search engines properly for sure our content would not be made visible to our readers on page one of the search engine. So we have to make sure that we have to strike a balance between our valued readers as well as the search engines.
So, it is always recommended that we should use pagination on our website instead of infinite scroll. Here come the article segmentation and hyperlinks to other pages more convenient for the readers.
So, if I have to sum up, I would recommend that your website should be well paginated but there has to be cross-linkage from one article to the other so that the readers can find the relevant content on the website. This not holy helps them getting hooked to your website but also increases the page clicks and hence search engine ranking.
