Have you been wondering to decide whether to launch your Udemy course Free or as a Paid course and then you will start thinking how many times can you switch over your course from free to a paid course in Udemy. Well, you need to understand this very clearly right at the beginning before launching the course in order to avoid any issues later on.
When I first launched my course, I was struggling with the same question how many times can you switch over your course from free to a paid course in Udemy? Till the time I wrote to Udemy to find an answer to this question.
Udemy has a lot of articles on their support pages but unfortunately, it’s really very difficult to find consolidated information at one place. I really don’t know if they have done this intentionally or they did not focus on it right from the beginning. Similarly, if you see the number of registrations for a particular course and you want to find out has the person really earned that much money, then you will actually have to crack your head to find the answer. So, are the incomes indicated on Udemy true? I have answered this question in my another post, but it will be worthwhile to read “Are the earnings shown on Udemy are true?”
If you have already published the course, then you will not have many options, as it is already late for you to decide. So, you should focus on Marketing Udemy Course
So, now coming back to the question, how many times can you switch over from free to a paid course in Udemy?
How many times can you switch over your course from free to a paid course in Udemy?
Though you can toggle a course between Free and Paid an indefinite number of times, you are allowed only one switch over between free to paid or from paid to free to keep your course eligible from being included in the Udemy Promotional Offer and Marketing Scheme.
If you are still deciding to prepare your first course on Udemy, then going through my Important tips to launch a course on Udemy, will be quite helpful.
What does this being included in the Udemy Promotional Offer and Marketing Scheme means?
As you know Udemy does a lot of marking of courses through various platforms and the course enrollment are primarily on three accounts:
- Organic Search
- Affiliate Program
- Ad Programs
Also, there are many promotional schemes that are active on Udemy throughout the year because of which you get discount up to 95% on Udemy. This means that if your course is priced at $199.99 Udemy will sell the course for $10.99. Through this strategy, they are able to motivate the learners to purchase the course.
But if you make more than one change from Free to Paid or Paid to free, then you will not be considered for this promotion. As a result, your course will always be shown as a fixed price course. Since the other courses will be available for a discount, from a learners/buyers psychology, you will get comparatively lesser registrations.
Comparing Courses eligible for Udemy Marking Promotions
Look at my course, since I started this course for free and then made it paid, so for this course the number of switchovers is one. In this case, I am eligible for the Udemy Marketing Promotion and my course is being sold at a discount. This attracts a buyer to register for the course.
Now let us look at a course which made a mistake of switching over more than one time as because of that, the course has been taken out from the Udemy Promotional and Marketing Offer. The course is being sold at a fixed price. As a result, even when the course was made in the year 2014, it has just 16 students and 0 reviews.
A warning message that you will get when your course is published
Once your course is a paid course, and if you will try to switch over to free, Udemy generally gives you a message.
Before updating the price of your course, please be aware that switching the price of your course between free and paid more than once will result in restrictions to your promotional announcements.
This is how you will see it on your account.
