Google Stops Showing Ads On Right Side Of Desktop Search Results Worldwide – But Why?
This has been done keeping in mind the increased mobile user pattern of internet and google search across the globe. Google wants to take its search engine to altogether new experience and since the mobile user base is increasing, so they are optimising their search results in the same line. This has been confirmed to search engine land. Also if you might have noticed that the desktop search results are getting similar to the search results what you see on mobile devices.
How this impacts you as a SEM Professional?
As a SEM professional, this is what you guys were targeting, both the top panel ads as well as the right side panel ads. So with even lesser bids in the google AdWords, you were able to show your business in the right side panel. But now with the recent change, you will not be able to show the right side panel ads, this means you will have to bid higher, rather much higher in google AdWords to show your ad. So the bidding in AdWords would become even fierce.
There will be one exception on the right side panel ad and that will be that they will be showing the Product Listing Ad (PLA) boxes. Also instead of the three ads that they showed on the top / bottom, they will now be showing 4 ads.
At the time of publishing of this post it was seen that, once you are not logged in your google account, you will not see the right side ads, but once logged in you will see the right side ads. This is still in testing phase, but it will soon be rolled out in all the languages worldwide. Google has been testing this since 2010.
Now if you have to get your ad to be displayed, you will have to shell out more money in terms of higher bidding to get your ad posted on the google search page.
